    Commentary

    C’est du règne de Maurice que date le remplacement de la victoire par la Vierge sur les sceaux impériaux. La légende du revers avec le nom de Tibère placé en premier date ce sceau, par analogie avec les émissions de bronze de la première année du règne [1]. Il ne semble pas en revanche qu’il faille reconnaître la distinction paléographique proposée par cet auteur entre le M de ce type et le  des types suivants du régne. Notre exemplaire, de même à notre avis que celui publié par W. Seibt, présente en effet déjà le  oncial des autres sceaux du règne.
