    Note the rare ligature  between the Υ and Ι in υἱός. A seal of the same person, bearing the legend Σφραγὶς Ἀνδρονικου τοῦ Δούκα υἱοῦ τοῦ πανυπερσεβάστου, may also feature the same ligature (Dumbarton Oaks Collection BZS.1951.31.5.2014).

    Commentary

    Aucune pièce parallèle n’est connue, mais un sceau du même personnage (Dumbarton Oaks Collection BZS.1951.31.5.2014). On connaît également deux types de sceaux, conservés à Dumbarton Oaks, au nom d’Andronic Doukas, sébaste, qui sont à peu près contemporains de notre plomb. Plusieurs Andronic, fils d’un panhypersébaste, furent sébastes: Andronic Comnène, fils d’Euphorbènos [1], Andronic Comnène, fils de Jean Roger Dalassène et petit-fils de Jean II Comnène [2], Andronic Kontostéphanos, fils d’Étienne Kontostéphanos et lui aussi petit-fils de Jean II [3], mais aucun d’eux n’est jamais appelé Doukas.
