Commentary
On peut faire remarquer l’analogie de cette effigie avec le type des AE 2 de Léon (LRBC 2251). Un type voisin est encore employé sur certains bronzes (dêkanoummia) de Justin Ier {BNC, pl. VI, 21 ; avec la lance) et sur le multiple d’or de Justinien Ier {ibidem, pl. VIII, 2 avec le globe nicéphore). La comparaison avec la numismatique nous amène à proposer ainsi une datation de 470 à 540 environ. Ce type de sceau peut avoir rempli les mêmes fonctions que le sceau que nous éditons plus loin (n° 152). Ils sont en effet tous deux, ovales et unifaces, portent l’effigie impériale et ont la même provenance (rivage de Tyr).
